that whatever choice you make, you
will be happy with the outcome. You don’t have any attachments to a particular result and you don’t feel
the need to control the situation. You can express preferences, but you’re open to “this, or something
even better.”
How Can I Tell if I’m Neutral?
An easy way to tell if you’re neutral is to perform the “Ice Cream Test.” Pretend someone offers you a choice of ice cream: “Would you like chocolate or vanilla?” If your response is, “I’d prefer chocolate, thank you,” you’re neutral to the issue.
This is not the only possible response, not by a long shot. Here are some other possible responses that indicate that you’re less than neutral on the issue:
“How dare you? Don’t you know how evil chocolate is? Chocolate exploits workers and kills the environment. All chocolate should be banned!”
“I’m going to choose chocolate, because vanilla usually has a higher sugar content.”
“How can you be so insensitive to offer me ice cream? Don’t you know I’m lactose intolerant?”
