I’ve often observed astrologers move from class to class and workshop to workshop, learning new tools and techniques. ere’s nothing wrong with learning, of course. But tools only have value if you use them. Metaphorically, most astrologers have a
garage full of fancy tools, and yet they can’t build a simple chair.
Tools are an important part of practical astrology, but you have to choose the right tool for the right job.
I speak from experience. I began my formal astrology studies in 1994, and since then I’ve picked up hundreds of di erent tools. I’ve studied a host of classical techniques from ancient Greece through the middle ages. I’ve learned how to work with asteroids, harmonic charts, Arabic parts, and even the hypothetical planets in Uranian Astrology.
I enjoyed learning it all, and I still nd many of the ideas fascinating. But when it comes down to it, I don’t use most of them. ey’re just not practical.
Building a Chair:
Academic vs. Practical Astrology
ere are two di erent paths you can follow when learning astrology: the academic path, and the practical path. Both paths are valid, but they lead to di erent destinations.
