Using an orb of 1° applying and 1° separating, most primary directions are active for about two
years. Primary directions create a context and highlight the potential for signi cant events for a period of time, but they don’t tell you when a particular event will happen. You use the rule of three and combine primary directions with other tools, such as transits, solar returns, or profections, to identify the periods of time when the potential of the direction is most likely to manifest.
It’s common to go through extended periods of time when only one or two primary directions are active. It’s rare, and therefore quite signi cant, for a period to have multiple active primary directions.
