Houses Related to the First House
Every other house in the chart has a direct relationship to the First House. However, the relationships between the First House and the Sixth, Seventh, and Eleventh Houses are especially important to understand.
The First House represents health, but the Sixth House represents illness.
When exploring questions of health in the natal chart, solar returns, or medical charts, the relationship between the First and Sixth Houses and their rulersisextremelyimportant.Anideal pictureofhealthmightinvolveadigni ed ruleroftheFirstHousewithnoconnection
whatsoever to a Sixth House ruler, but you can’t count on that scenario.
The First House is “me,” but the Seventh House is “you.”
e relationship between the ruler of the
First House and the ruler of the Seventh House
is central to questions about competition and relationships. e ruler of the First House always represents you and the ruler of the Seventh House represents the other person.
In the context of the natal chart, the First House contains everything that seems to describe “me” and the Seventh House contains everything that is “not me,” because you encounter it in other people.
The First House represents actual happiness, but the Eleventh House represents the pursuit of happiness.
e First House represents true happiness, which comes from within you and is a function of your level
of consciousness. By contrast, the Eleventh House represents your pursuit of happiness. Speci cally, the Eleventh House relates to the things that you want; you believe that when you acquire these things you’ll be happy. is is not always the case.
The First House in Horary, Electional, and Mundane Astrology
e First House is a part of every horary chart because it represents the
person asking the question. is consideration is important because not
every question is valid, and not every person asking a question has a right to ask the question.
e ruler of the First House stands in for the querent (the person asking
the question), and that planet can be evaluated in relationship to
the rulers of the other houses involved in the question. First House questions in horary astrology involve length of life, health, and happiness (topics that present
day astrologers rarely consider as horary questions), and vehicles. If you’re wondering whether or not to buy a particular car, the car belongs to the First
House, and the ruler of the First House represents the car itself.
In mundane astrology the First House represents the nation as a whole. e sign on the cusp of the First House describes the appearance and identity of the nation.
