it’s your start in the world, and it relates to how to live and survive in the physical world. ese are lessons we learn from our fathers. Our mothers raise us to be productive members of society. ey teach us how to behave in public, and this is the domain of the Tenth House.
The Tenth House is your career; the Sixth House is your job.
In our culture today, everyone wants to believe they have a career rather than a job. e sociological and psychological reasons behind this are complex, and too involved to discuss here. Astrologically, the di erence goes beyond semantics, and is quite important. If you are the boss — the owner of the company or the CEO, not just a manager — you have a Tenth House career. If you have a boss, you have a Sixth House job. If you
want accurate answers to your work-related questions, you must choose the correct house.
The Tenth House in Horary, Electional, and Mundane Astrology
Horary and Electional Astrology are impersonal and objective, and this especially applies to the Tenth House. e Tenth House relates to the government, the rulers,
and as J. Lee Lehman argues, to corporations (which in today’s world often have more power and in uence over our lives than governments do). When asking a Tenth House question, there is an inherent imbalance of power: it’s David vs. Goliath. It doesn’t matter how well digni ed you are (as the ruler of the First House), the Tenth House will always do whatever it wants and you can do nothing to stop it. All you can do is hope that the powers that be are inclined to bestow favors on you.
For most people, the Tenth House shows up in career-related questions, such as “Will I get the
promotion?” or “Will I get the job?” In these cases, to get a “yes” answer, you would like to see the ruler of the Tenth House to be digni ed (so it has the ability to take action) and in some kind of favorable or harmonious relationship with the planet that rules the First House.
e Tenth House plays an important role in many other types of questions. For example, when considering a question about buying or selling, especially in a real estate question, the Tenth House is the price. By evaluating the condition of the ruler of the Tenth House, you can determine if the price is fair or not. is plays an important part in judging whether or not an o er will be accepted.
In medical questions, the Tenth House is the cure itself. Again, evaluate the condition of the ruler of the Tenth House to determine if the cure will be e ective. Pay particular attention to the Essential Dignity (power) of the ruler. If it’s strongly digni ed, the cure will work. If it lacks dignity, the cure won’t do much. If it’s debilitated because it’s peregrine, in Detriment, and/or Fall, or if it’s retrograde, the cure may do more harm than good.
In legal questions, the Tenth House (and the ruler of the Tenth House) is the judge. If the ruler of the Tenth House is digni ed, justice will most likely prevail. But keep in mind, a just outcome isn’t the same thing as getting what you want from the lawsuit! In mundane astrology, the Tenth House is the government, both as an entity and also with regards
to speci c individuals in power, such as the king, the prime minister, or the president. However, government agencies, such as congress or parliament, are represented by the Eleventh House.
