No one is born with the ability to interpret a natal chart. Talented astrologers got that way because they developed the necessary chart interpretation skills. This month, we explore some of the skills of natal chart interpretation and what it takes to develop them.
In How to Become a Talented Astrologer: The Astrological Talent Code you’ll learn about deep practice, the essential component of skill development, and the difference between rigid hard skills and flexible soft skills. Each phase of the chart interpretation process, Reading the Chart, Drafting a Blueprint, and Building a Chair, requires a different set of skills.
We start with the big picture in Chairspotting: The Essence of Astrology. All of the events in your life, your choices and experiences are external and relate to appearance. Astrology doesn’t operate at the level of appearance. Astrology looks beneath the surface and reveals the essence. The most important interpretation skill is the ability to look at the appearance of the client and connect it back to the essence of the chart. You need to be able to spot any chair built from a particular blueprint.
Right-Click Astrology: Contextual Keywords in Interpretation addresses the importance of context. Each symbol in the language of astrology has an extensive list of meanings, but not every meaning is appropriate to every context. Elephants belong in the 12th house, but it’s amazing how rarely they show up in a natal chart.
You build chairs from a blueprint by assembling sketch sentences, but the sketch sentences aren’t part of your interpretation. They’re interpretation drills. Learn How to Build Efficient Sketch Sentences starting on page 36.
In the Relationships department, read the first part of a three-part series on how to analyze relationship needs in the natal chart, Analyzing Relationship Needs Part 1: A Guide to Cracking Safety Needs. Human nature always trumps astrology. We will always find a way to meet our safety needs, no matter how many obstacles appear in the natal chart. Spotting the problems in the chart is easy. The hard part is figuring out the solutions.
And finally, this month's Consciousness article, Releasing Attachments to Let Go of Clutter, explores why Spring cleaning can be more challenging than you expect. Before you can let go of clutter, you first have to let go of your attachments to it.
And stay tuned: The Real Houses of Astrology will return next month.
